The sunglasses worn by the protagonist in the 1970s film Taxi Driver served as inspiration. The design team drew bold influence from the shape of Japanese roof tiles seen on an early Showa-era building, incorporating this element into the endpiece and temples.

The temples and acetate temple tips are inspired by vintage American-made eyeglasses from the 1960s.
